Vertical Living

Presented in the Exhibition "Living and Utopia"

This concept design for a vertical city speculates on alternative ways of achieving high residential density in the future. Its compositional origin is a solid extrusion with distinct formal divisions, which are progressively diversified through repetition and differentiation. In an interplay of solids and voids, glazed common areas are strategically introduced to create relief in-between the residences. Alluding to the interconnectedness of biological processes, the modules of this residential ensemble form symbiotic relationships while retaining their integrity as a unit; they all face forward, but are otherwise completely interdependent.
